Sending Money from Bangladesh to Korea for Your Studies
How will your family pay tuition and send money for living costs? In Bangladesh, the main legal route is a student file at a bank. Here is how it works.
Step 1. Open a student file
A student file is opened at an Authorized Dealer (AD) bank branch in Bangladesh. It lets you send tuition directly to your university and living costs to your own account in Korea.
- Admission letter from your Korean university
- Passport and NID
- Student visa copy
- Academic certificates
- Your sponsor's account details and photos
You can have only one student file at a time, and you renew it every year with a new enrollment certificate. Bank fees and rules differ, so ask your bank first.
Step 2. Pay tuition
Tuition is sent by bank transfer (SWIFT) straight to the university, using the university's invoice. Since August 2026, Bangladeshi banks may also issue cards for paying tuition and approved education fees abroad.
Step 3. Living costs
Living costs are sent to your own Korean bank account through the student file. Open your account soon after you arrive. See opening a bank account in Korea. Your Korean bank may ask why money is arriving, so keep your enrollment certificate handy.
Carrying cash
- Leaving Bangladesh: cash limits apply. Check the current limit with your bank or Bangladesh Customs, and have the amount recorded properly.
- Arriving in Korea: you must declare more than USD 10,000 (all currencies combined) to Korean customs.
